How to make HDR

HDR means High Dynamic Range, and it's usually used in hard light and shadow situations or if you want to get a dramatic and surreal effect on your photos. Here's a few examples of HDR pictures.

To make an HDR you need to take 3 photos, and you will need a tripod to take them:

1. Take a photo with the correct exposure.

2. Then take an underexposed one.

3. And finally take a overexposed photo.

After you take the 3 pictures, you need to merge them, to make this we're gonna use a program called HDR Efex Pro,  this one is paid, but they are some free programs that you can use as well, like the Luminance HDR or the Picturenaut.

Go to File»» Open Exposures Series and select the 3 pictures that you took.

After the program combine the photos, you can choose from a lot of cool presets (filters), and controls like Exposure, Contrast, Saturation and others.
To save your HDR just click save and select where you want to save.

  5. i downloaded picturenaut to try it out. does the photos have to be in raw format when taken with the camera or can you use auto and adjust the lighting to under exposure and overexposure. I'm still learning the capabilities and settings of my canon slr. Trying to put it all together, any information would be helpful. Thanks

  6. Hi, the photos don't need to be in RAW, you can shoot them in JPEG too, but to have under exposure and overexposure pictures you may need to work in Manual Mode, if you don't know how to work in this mode, just reply to this comment saying that and i will explain for you, or even make a post about it, what do you think?
