How to make HDR

HDR means High Dynamic Range, and it's usually used in hard light and shadow situations or if you want to get a dramatic and surreal effect on your photos. Here's a few examples of HDR pictures.

To make an HDR you need to take 3 photos, and you will need a tripod to take them:

1. Take a photo with the correct exposure.

2. Then take an underexposed one.

3. And finally take a overexposed photo.

After you take the 3 pictures, you need to merge them, to make this we're gonna use a program called HDR Efex Pro,  this one is paid, but they are some free programs that you can use as well, like the Luminance HDR or the Picturenaut.

Go to File»» Open Exposures Series and select the 3 pictures that you took.

After the program combine the photos, you can choose from a lot of cool presets (filters), and controls like Exposure, Contrast, Saturation and others.
To save your HDR just click save and select where you want to save.

How to do street photography

Street photography is an awesome type of photography, mostly because you don't need expensive equipment. In my opinion any slr camera with a kit lens (eg. 18-55mm) is more than enough.

The following steps will help you to get better street photography shots...

  • Use a wide lens, nothing more than 50mm, because most of the objects will be close to you;
  • Shoot from the hip (without looking at the camera)
  • Use auto-focus, because you will have to focus quickly;
  • Use a small aperture (f/16 for example), so you can get all the scene sharp;
  • Use a fast shutter speed, this way you're gonna to freeze the action;
  • Use a high ISO (1600 for example).

Look around.

In street photography you have to be aware. Since a lot of things are happening at the same time, and i guess you wouldn't like to loose the best moments, just shoot what's more important to you.

You don't  need to shoot in black and white.

Just because almost all  of the street shots are in black and white, doesn't mean that you need to shoot in b/w, and in this picture we have an example who shows that color shots may come out very interesting too.

Capture emotions!

Try to look at the people and you will find a lot of different and amazing expressions, like the one of the guy who is sitting on the taxi looking at the girl, looks like is in love with her, or the one below that, where the guy has an amazing look on his face.

So this is it for this post, hope you like it!

The unknown rebel or the "tank man"

The title of the photo taken by Stuart Franklin is the nickname of an anonymous man who achieved widespread international recognition due to the photographs taken of the incident in Tiananmen protests of 5th June 1984.

Another version of this photo, taken by Charlie Cole, won, in 1989 a World press Photo award for the shot that became the symbol of the rebellion against Chinese government.

The photograph of The Beatles walking across a zebra crossing on Abbey Road, London, is probably the most famous Beatles album cover (witch is called "Abbey Road")
The photo was taken in 1969, by Ian MacMillan, he stood on a ladder in the middle of the road to replicate a sketch drawn by Paul McCartney.
The shoot took only 10 minutes, with a police officer holding up the traffic.

First photo ever taken

Just to be a little reverse the last picture of this post was actually the first photograph ever taken, it was taken in 1826  by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce on "Bitumen of Judaea" (a material that becomes insoluble in lavender oil after being exposed to the light).
To take this picture Joseph needed a eight hours shutter speed, this long exposure was responsible of causing the impression that the buildings were lighted by sun from both sides.
