How to do street photography

Street photography is an awesome type of photography, mostly because you don't need expensive equipment. In my opinion any slr camera with a kit lens (eg. 18-55mm) is more than enough.

The following steps will help you to get better street photography shots...

  • Use a wide lens, nothing more than 50mm, because most of the objects will be close to you;
  • Shoot from the hip (without looking at the camera)
  • Use auto-focus, because you will have to focus quickly;
  • Use a small aperture (f/16 for example), so you can get all the scene sharp;
  • Use a fast shutter speed, this way you're gonna to freeze the action;
  • Use a high ISO (1600 for example).

Look around.

In street photography you have to be aware. Since a lot of things are happening at the same time, and i guess you wouldn't like to loose the best moments, just shoot what's more important to you.

You don't  need to shoot in black and white.

Just because almost all  of the street shots are in black and white, doesn't mean that you need to shoot in b/w, and in this picture we have an example who shows that color shots may come out very interesting too.

Capture emotions!

Try to look at the people and you will find a lot of different and amazing expressions, like the one of the guy who is sitting on the taxi looking at the girl, looks like is in love with her, or the one below that, where the guy has an amazing look on his face.

So this is it for this post, hope you like it!
