Finding Vivian Maier

Vivian Maier was an American amateur street photographer, who was born in New York City but grew up in France.

During the forty years that Vivian worked as a nanny, she took about 100,000 photographs, primarily of people and cityscapes in Chicago, although she traveled and photographed worldwide.

Here are some amazing pictures by Vivian Maier:

Her photographs remained unknown and mostly undeveloped until they were discovered by a local Chicago historian and collector, John Maloof, in 2007.

Her work has been exhibited many countries all over the world, such as US, England, Germany, Denmark, and Norway, and have appeared in newspapers and magazines in the US, England, Germany, Italy, France and other countries.

The guy that found her work, is doing a documentary about Vivian's life, since it's not done yet, watch the trailer down below.

How to make HDR

HDR means High Dynamic Range, and it's usually used in hard light and shadow situations or if you want to get a dramatic and surreal effect on your photos. Here's a few examples of HDR pictures.

To make an HDR you need to take 3 photos, and you will need a tripod to take them:

1. Take a photo with the correct exposure.

2. Then take an underexposed one.

3. And finally take a overexposed photo.

After you take the 3 pictures, you need to merge them, to make this we're gonna use a program called HDR Efex Pro,  this one is paid, but they are some free programs that you can use as well, like the Luminance HDR or the Picturenaut.

Go to File»» Open Exposures Series and select the 3 pictures that you took.

After the program combine the photos, you can choose from a lot of cool presets (filters), and controls like Exposure, Contrast, Saturation and others.
To save your HDR just click save and select where you want to save.
